On November 2nd and 3rd, PPI TIU (Indonesian Student Association at Tokyo International University) participated in the excitement of the TIU International Festival, a fantastic opportunity to connect with the TIU community through the warmth and diversity of Indonesian culture. The goal was to showcase Indonesia’s rich culture to international students and general visitors, as well as to bring a taste of home to fellow Indonesian students. We hosted a food booth with popular Indonesian dishes, set up an indoor cultural display, and presented several performances on the main stage to highlight Indonesia's unique traditions and vibrant arts.

At the food booth, three signature items were offered: Nasi Goreng, Indonesian-style fried rice; Mie Goreng, Indonesian-style fried noodles; and Kopi Susu, an Indonesian coffee-and-milk drink. Each dish was carefully prepared by the students themselves, with weeks of trial and error spent perfecting the recipes. All that effort paid off, as we saw the excitement and received positive feedback from our customers. By the end of the festival, every dish was sold out, even after preparing extra portions to meet the high demand.

Additionally, to offer a more hands-on experience of Indonesian culture, we set up an indoor cultural booth with traditional games and clothing for visitors to try. This included two classic games: Congklak, a popular Indonesian board game, and Engklek, the Indonesian version of hopscotch. For traditional clothing, we showcased various items, including Batik, a patterned textile made with a unique dyeing technique, offered in shirt form; Kebaya, a traditional women’s upper garment; Sarung, a large fabric wrap worn around the waist; and two traditional hats, Peci and Blangkon. People of all ages, from kids to adults, enjoyed immersing themselves in these cultural experiences.

Despite the rain on the first day of the festival, the performances on the second day were a success, thanks to the support of Indonesian TIU students who came out to cheer. The showcase began with an elegant traditional dance from Betawi, Jakarta, called "Kinang Kilaras." To heighten the excitement, the performance was followed by a lively flash mob, inviting all Indonesian students to join in and dance together to Indonesian folk songs and popular hits.

PPI TIU is grateful for the opportunity to share our culture and for the enthusiasm and support shown by the TIU community. This event not only introduced Indonesian culture to a broader audience but also strengthened the sense of community among Indonesian students at TIU. We look forward to future opportunities to showcase Indonesia's vibrant culture to the public once again.
